YES Meeting Porto

YES Meeting was born in 2006 as a result of a pioneer idea of a Student from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto. His goal was to gather students from biomedical areas as well as researchers from reference centers, and give them the opportunity to discuss their work.

The main goal of this project has been ever since to provide students proper recognition from the scientific world and hence motivate them to do research work.

Since its first edition, the Meeting has been growing not only in the number of participants but also in international recognition. In the last edition, IFMSA (International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations) has made YES Meeting its official Meeting.

Regarding the scientific programme, the Meeting includes:

1. Simposia held by worldwide known scientists from cutting-edge research centers;

2.Presentations by students of their research studies on the following themes: Neurosciences, Immunology & Physiology, Oncology & Molecular Biology, Internal Medicine and Surgery;

3.Interactive workshops related both to Basic Sciences such as Human Anatomy, Obesity, Diabetes and Clinical Sciences such as Eye Surgery, Laparoscopic Surgery, Hematology, Bioengineering among others.

Besides the scientific aspect, there is always a social programme which includes a guided visit to the historic sights of Porto city and other touristic places. The participants are given the opportunity to try the Portuguese cuisine and to listen to tradicional academic music by our Tunas.

Finally, the Meeting comes to an end with a farewell dinner and a concert held by Grupo de Fados from the Faculty of Medicine of Porto University in order to promote Fado, recently considered Intangible Cultural Heritage. One of the highlights of the night is the Award Ceremony of the students’ works.
