Denise Galloway, PhD is Head of the Cancer Biology Program and a Member of the Divisions of Human Biology and Public Health Sciences at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle. She is also a Research Professor in the Departments of Microbiology and Pathology at the University of Washington School of Medicine. Her laboratory has broad based interests in viruses and cancers, particularly human papillomaviruses (HPV) and polyomaviruses (PyVs). She has studied the mechanisms by which the HPV E6 and E7 proteins contribute to neoplasia, developed serologic and DNA assays to detect HPV and PyV infections, and has collaborated with epidemiologists to study the natural history of genital HPV infections and the role of these viruses in anogenital, head and neck, and skin cancers. Dr Galloway has served on numerous editorial boards and grant review panels. She holds grants from NIH including a MERIT award, and has been elected as a Fellow of the Infectious Disease Society, the Academy of Microbiology and the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences.
